Everybody who's a webmaster has different types of problems and "gotchas". Seems I'm lucky enough to have several.
Latest one is a proabably-soon-to-die hard drvie (not all will be lost, I have 3 on that machine) that has quite a few (several hundred, at least) files on it that I've been collecting, capturing, editing, etc., for use on FW. Keeps crashing my main computer & makes it hard to update the site. Soon as I get the money, I'm going to get a couple of SATAs and put them in RAID. It's great to have 200GB+ hard drives (when they work), but they can always fail at some point. So, the best laid plans sometimes get waylaid.
Then there's always your hosting service. It's a pain in the butt to change hosts, but looks like I'm gonna have to do it. My site goes offline too often for me (I have an account with 4 sites on it and they all go down at once). One is a site for my wife's business. To be down for a few minutes for maintenance or something is not too bad - if you have warning so you can pot a notice on your site - but sometimes my sites have been down for several hours at a time. Not good when you're trying to lure visitors - they go to your URL & see a "page cannot be found" message. Think they'll be back anytime soon? My main site is my hobby, and I like to think that folks enjoy it & want to come back. But between being down more often than I like & the low limits imposed on server space. I was supposed to be guaranteed unlimited server space, but that was 5 years ago - I pay the same amount, but now I'm limited to 800 MB/site for 5 sites (I currently only use 4 domainsand 3 of them were created as "overflow" sites for my primary).
Y'all probably don't give a rip, but it's frustrating to us folks who have enough trouble keeping sites looking the way we want, trying to keep them current, & looking to improve them to have to deal with hardware & host issues. Of course, if I had the ability to host from my house, Iprobably would give up because of the cost. Oh well.
What's YOUR beef? _________________ You can't always get what you want...
